Garcetti beats Greuel in Los Angeles Mayoral Election

Eric Garcetti defeated his competitor, Controller Wendy Greuel, 54% to 46% in a low turnout election to replace current Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Despite the low turnout, the campaign was the city's most expensive, with candidates spending about $33 million. An LA Times story suggested that many voters were put off by the negative advertising and that this may have partly explained why so many stayed home on election day.
