Garcetti wins mayoral seat in Los Angeles with historically low voter turnout

Eric Garcetti won the Los Angeles mayor seat with 54.2% of votes over Wendy Greuel. Only 420,000, or 23% of voters, participated in the election, the lowest turnout "in any two-candidate runoff in 100 years." This indicates that Garcetti was only elected by 12% of the city's registered voters, the smallest percentage of voters to elect a mayor since 1933. The city is considering changing the date of municipal voting to that of state and federal elections to draw more voters.
